Emergency Medical Technician–Basic Certificate (EMTC)
The EMT-Basic represents the first level of pre-hospital care provider in the EMS system. An EMT-Basic is prepared to care for patients at the scene of an accident or illness and while transporting patients by ambulance to the hospital under medical direction. The EMT-Basic has the emergency skills to assess a patient’s condition and manage medical and trauma emergencies. The two-term EMT-Basic certificate program meets the objectives of the US DOT Emergency Medical Technician-Basic: National Standard Curriculum and is approved by the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Division of Emergency Medical Services. After successful completion of the EMT-Basic certificate program, students are eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians cognitive and practical examinations.
